The long-term performance of pavement structures is directly and significantly impacted by the tensile strength and abrasion resistance of the subgrade soils. The majority of the time, in-situ subgrades are unable to provide the support required to achieve and function satisfactorily under the traffic loads required by the growing number of environmental rules. In this example, bitumen emulsion is being used in conjunction with dirt to increase pavement durability and longevity.
