The primary objective of this research thesis is to examine and provide potential solutions for the complex challenges associated with IoT-based applications, particularly in the realm of smart home automation. The research commences by undertaking a thorough assessment of widely recognised Internet of Things (IoT) devices, meticulously scrutinising their security vulnerabilities and potential avenues for cyberattacks. Through an in-depth analysis of device firmware, communication protocols, authentication processes, and encryption algorithms, vulnerabilities can be identified, leading to the formulation of appropriate mitigation strategies.
