Women Emancipation in Leo Tolstoy’s Masterpiece ‘Anna Karenina’

Abstract

Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy was a Russian novelist and a short story writer. He does not only contribute for the literature but also widely known for his complicated and paradoxical persona and for his extreme moralistic and ascetic views in the 19th century. He also had contributed for the great philosophical work in terms of its morality. With the same he was a renowned social worker. The two greatest novels namely ‘War and Peace’ and ‘Anna Karenina’ had put a deep impact on the society and especially on life of the women. The novel is just not about the love story but the author Tolstoy weaves multiple storylines, exploring themes such as love, jealousy, betrayal, societal norms, and the search for meaning in life. This particular novel is said to be the best combination of realist and modernist views that highlights the liberal factors for the women emancipation.
